Towards an Automatic Sign Language Translation System
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper outlines a concept of a continuous sign language translation system. The system consists of two main components. One of these is a video-based recognition tool, which aims for automatic signer dependent recognition of sign language sentences, based on a lexicon of 100 signs of German Sign Language. A single colour video camera is used for image recording. The recognition is based on Hidden Markov Models concentrating on manual sign parameters. The video-based recognition tool achieves an accuracy of 91.6%. The second main component is a translation tool, that translates from sequences of sign identiiers (provided by the recognition tool) into text. It uses two types of statistical information sources: a translation model and a language model. The translation model is decomposed into a lexical model and an alignment model. Experiments on tasks with comparable complexity yeald accuracies between 88 and 100%.

Hand in Hand: Automatic Sign Language to English Translation
In this paper, we describe the first data-driven automatic sign-languageto-speech translation system. While both sign language (SL) recognition and translation techniques exist, both use an intermediate notation system not directly intelligible for untrained users. We combine a SL recognizing framework with a state-of-the-art phrase-based machine translation (MT) system, using corpora of both A...
متن کاملTowards Automatic Sign Language Annotation for the ELAN Tool
A new interface to the ELAN annotation software that can handle automatically generated annotations by a sign language recognition and translation framework is described. For evaluation and benchmarking of automatic sign language recognition, large corpora with rich annotation are needed. Such databases have generally only small vocabularies and are created for linguistic purposes, because the ...
متن کاملTowards Automatic Sign Translation
Signs are everywhere in our lives. They make our lives easier when we are familiar with them. But sometimes they also pose problems. For example, a tourist might not be able to understand signs in a foreign country. In this paper, we present our efforts towards automatic sign translation. We discuss methods for automatic sign detection. We describe sign translation using example based machine t...
متن کاملThe ATIS Sign Language Corpus
Systems that automatically process sign language rely on appropriate data. We therefore present the ATIS sign language corpus that is based on the domain of air travel information. It is available for five languages, English, German, Irish sign language, German sign language and South African sign language. The corpus can be used for different tasks like automatic statistical translation and au...
متن کاملTowards Automatic Translation from Japanese into Japanese Sign Language
In this paper, we present a prototype MT system named SYUWAN which can translate Japanese into Japanese sign language. One of the most important problems in this translation is that there are very few entries in a sign language dictionary, compared with Japanese one. To solve this problem, when the original input word does not exist in a sign language dictionary, SYUWAN applies some techniques ...
